Image-Line's current online NewTone manual (unversioned; checked September 2026) documents Send to piano roll, which places detected notes in the selected Channel and Pattern. Start with a clean melodic recording. NewTone pitch editing is different from separating the instruments of a mixed song.

Load an exposed pitched phrase
Open the audio in NewTone. A solo vocal, bass or instrument line makes note detection easier to review than a full mix.

Correct the NewTone score
Inspect pitch blobs, starts and ends in NewTone. Move or split notes where the detected phrase differs from the recording.

Send to Piano Roll
Select the target Channel and Pattern. Click NewTone's Send to piano roll / Create score control to place the detected score as MIDI notes in that Piano Roll.

Audition and edit the Pattern
Play the new notes with an instrument, compare with the source audio and fix rhythm or pitches. For a separate draft, process an authorized audio export with PureMIDI and import its .mid.

When an external draft helps
Keep the original audio and the NewTone Pattern. If you need to compare a different analysis, export the relevant part and import an external .mid on a separate Channel. Align both at the same tempo, listen for wrong notes and retain only the useful edits.

Is the audio itself copied to Piano Roll?+
No. NewTone sends detected note data; the new Pattern plays through the selected instrument.

NewTone edits detected pitch material. Use isolated parts when you need a particular instrument line.
What should I check after sending the score?+
Open the destination Pattern and compare every phrase with the original recording before arranging.
