The Guitar Pro export is generated only after a round-trip validation. Because MIDI does not store original guitar fingering, lyrics, articulations, or tuning, the result is a practical draft that you should inspect—not a reconstruction of the source performance.

Convert MIDI to Guitar Pro in three steps

Open a MIDI file
Drop a .mid or .midi file into the editor. Parsing happens in the browser, and you can choose the track that contains the guitar, riff, chords, or melody.

Review the tablature
The fingering engine maps pitches to standard E–A–D–G–B–E tuning, avoids assigning two notes to one string, and flags pitches or chord shapes it cannot place within the supported fret and hand-span limits.

Export Guitar Pro
Play the selected track, fix the MIDI or choose a better source track if needed, then export a .gp file. PureMIDI reloads the generated file and checks note and timing equivalence before download.

Current guitar mapping rules
- The live mapper uses standard six-string E–A–D–G–B–E tuning and frets 0–24.
- A simultaneous chord must fit on unique strings and within a maximum five-fret hand span; unsupported events are reported instead of silently dropped.
- The algorithm minimizes position changes, but its chosen string and fret may differ from a guitarist's preferred fingering.
- The export does not infer lyrics, chord names, bends, slides, palm muting, alternate tuning, capo, or the source instrument from MIDI alone.

Round-trip export validation
Before download, the editor exports Guitar Pro 7 data, loads it again, and compares the note/timing result. If export or validation fails, no misleading file is offered; the editor shows an error so you can keep the original MIDI safe.

- Use one guitar-oriented track instead of a full orchestral MIDI.
- Remove sustain-overlap notes that create impossible chords.
- Transpose notes outside standard guitar range.
- Split keyboard voicings that require more than six simultaneous strings.
- Open the exported file in Guitar Pro and set alternate tuning or articulations manually.

Which Guitar Pro format is exported?+
The current editor exports a Guitar Pro 7-compatible .gp file and validates it by loading the generated data again before download.
Does it upload my MIDI?+
The editor parses and maps the MIDI in your browser. This tool does not need the server-side audio conversion pipeline.
Can it recover the original guitar fingering?+
No. MIDI stores pitch and timing, not string and fret choices. The mapper selects a playable candidate under its current rules.
Does it support alternate tunings?+
The current automatic mapping uses standard E–A–D–G–B–E tuning. Set alternate tuning and adjust positions after opening the exported file in Guitar Pro.
What happens to impossible chords?+
Events that require duplicate strings, exceed six notes, fall outside the fretboard, or exceed the hand-span constraint are reported for review instead of being silently presented as valid tab.
Will lyrics and chord names be included?+
No. MIDI normally does not contain reliable lyrics, chord labels, or guitar articulations, and this exporter does not invent them.
Can it convert Guitar Pro files back to MIDI?+
Not on this page. The supported direction is MIDI to Guitar Pro; .gp, .gp5, and .gpx uploads are not accepted.
