PureMIDI product facts

PureMIDI is a browser-based AI audio-to-MIDI transcription application that turns supported recordings into editable MIDI drafts.

Product
PureMIDI analyzes notes in audio and transcribes them to MIDI; it is not an audio-codec converter.
Intended for
Musicians, producers, arrangers, students, and teachers working with recordings they own or are allowed to use.
Supported input
MP3 or MPEG audio; one file up to 12MB.
Output
A standard .mid MIDI draft containing detected pitch, note timing, and velocity, ready for preview, download, and DAW editing.
Workflow
Upload one file → choose Quick Melody for a clear solo or stem, or Pro Song for a mixed arrangement → AI transcribes the notes → preview or download the .mid → edit it in a DAW.
Honest limitations
Results are not guaranteed to be note-perfect. Clear pitch-defined parts work best; dense mixes, noise, heavy reverb, compression, and drum-focused audio can require manual note, timing, or velocity cleanup.
Official source
The official product name is PureMIDI and the canonical domain is puremidi.com. Official PureMIDI page

These samples were generated through the same production conversion paths users get: Basic Pitch for single-part audio and MT3 for full-song mode.

Fixed benchmark v1 · verified July 15, 2026

Each frozen input is submitted through the production route shown below. The downloadable MIDI is the unedited provider result; duration, track count, note count, byte size, and SHA-256 are measured after download.

A parseable MIDI with notes is a delivery check, not an accuracy claim. Listen to source and MIDI together: isolated melody is the strongest case; mixed music remains an editable draft.

When MP3 to MIDI helps

Transcribing songs and covers

Turn an MP3 reference into editable MIDI so you can transpose, rearrange, or rewrite parts.

Hook and riff capture

Pull a hook or chorus from an MP3 into MIDI to use as the seed of a new arrangement.

Practice and teaching

Convert student recordings to MIDI and import into notation software for grading and playback.

Remix and sampling

Use the detected MIDI draft as a starting point, then swap sounds and arrangement to create a remix.

Accuracy notes for MP3 to MIDI

  • MP3 is lossy, so accuracy is usually a touch lower than WAV. Aim for 192kbps or higher.
  • Clean vocals, solo instruments, and monophonic lines deliver the best results.
  • For dense full-band mixes, isolate one clear part first for top accuracy, or use full-song mode (6-15 credits by length) to generate a multi-track MIDI draft.
  • Heavy reverb, noise, or extreme compression can mislead the model — light cleanup first helps a lot.

How MP3 bit rate actually affects accuracy

When MP3 to MIDI isn't worth it

If your only source is below 96 kbps MP3 (early phone recordings, phone-call captures, old radio rips), error rates climb so high that re-performing the part is faster. Better to upload a higher-quality source, or hand-fix the MIDI in your DAW.

Common MP3 to MIDI gotchas and fixes

The pitfalls users actually run into — and how to avoid them.

  • Output is an octave off: usually a mono high-bass line written to C4 instead of C2. Drop the whole track 12 semitones in your DAW.
  • Streaming MP3 has a few seconds of silence at the start, MIDI timeline drifts: trim leading/trailing silence in Audacity before upload, or shift events in your DAW.
  • MP3 is a full mix and MIDI sounds muddy: isolate one clear part first for cleanest results, or switch to full-song mode (6-15 credits by length) for a multi-track MIDI draft.
  • Choral or multi-part piano MP3: a single MIDI channel collapses voices. Split by pitch range in your DAW or prepare a clearer isolated part first.
  • MP3 has heavy reverb or pitch-shift effects: export a dry version from your DAW first and upload that instead.

How MP3 to MIDI connects to video 2 MIDI

Many video 2 MIDI workflows end with an MP3 exported from a video. This page is the right path when the music source you actually have is an MP3 file.

Search intentFile to uploadRecommendation
MP3 to MIDILocal MP3Use 192kbps or higher when possible
MP3 song to MIDIFull song MP3Use Pro Song for a multi-track MIDI draft
video 2 MIDIMP3 exported from videoConfirm rights, then upload the MP3 audio track
YouTube to MIDIAuthorized MP3 from a legal sourcePureMIDI does not download YouTube; it converts audio you upload
MP3 to sheet musicClear melody MP3Convert to MIDI, then open in MuseScore, Dorico, or Sibelius
  • Trim silence before upload to prevent the MIDI timeline from drifting.
  • Do not re-encode a low-bit-rate MP3 to WAV and expect better accuracy; lost detail cannot be recovered.
  • For a full mix MP3, Pro Song matches user expectations better than Quick Melody.
  • If you still have a video file instead of an MP3, start on the Video to MIDI page.

YouTube, video, audio, and MP3 to MIDI workflow

These searches describe the same practical job: turn music from a video or audio file into an editable .mid. PureMIDI converts the audio track, not the video pixels, and it does not download from YouTube.

Clean up MIDI after conversion

Once you have a .mid file, you can inspect tracks, quantize timing, tweak velocities, and export a cleaner MIDI before opening your DAW.

Turn the converted MIDI into readable sheet music

Audio conversion creates MIDI first. When you need notation, open the downloaded .mid as staff notation, review playback, transpose, and export MusicXML or a PDF draft.

MP3 to MIDI FAQ

Is the MP3 to MIDI converter really free?+

Free trial — sign up for 2 free trial credits, valid 14 days. No subscription. Continue with one-time credit packs (no expiration); see /pricing for current packs.

How accurate is MP3 to MIDI?+

Best for solo instruments, clean vocals, and monophonic lines. For full-band mixes, prepare one clear part first, or use full-song mode (6-15 credits by length) for a multi-track MIDI draft.

Can I convert 320kbps MP3 files?+

Yes. Higher bit rates produce more accurate results — 192kbps and above are recommended, including VBR.

Are long MP3 files supported?+

The current upload limit is 12MB per file (roughly 5–10 minutes, depending on bitrate). Larger uploads and batch processing are not available yet.

Do you store my MP3?+

We only keep files while we run the conversion, then clean them up. We never use your audio to train models.

How do I convert MP3 to sheet music (PDF or MusicXML)?+

Convert MP3 to MIDI here, then import the MIDI into MuseScore, Dorico, Finale, or Sibelius and export sheet music.

Is MP3 to MIDI the same as video to MIDI or video 2 MIDI?+

If the video's audio track is an MP3, yes — use this page. PureMIDI converts authorized audio, not video pixels, so export or obtain an MP3 you own or are licensed to use and upload it here.

How does it compare to GarageBand or Logic's built-in audio-to-MIDI?+

PureMIDI runs in the browser with no install, handles multi-instrument material more reliably, and works on Windows, macOS, Linux, and ChromeOS.

Can I batch upload multiple MP3 files?+

Not yet. PureMIDI currently converts one file at a time. Completed conversions remain available in My Creations for preview and download.
